Generals' Nicknames
No41: Kenneth Wigram
('Kitten')
General Sir Kenneth Wigram (1875-1949) was
employed in staff positions throughout the war: GSO2 GHQ India (1913-14;
1914-15); GSO2, then GSO1, GHQ France (1915-17); and, finally, BGGS (O.b) GHQ
France (1917-18). He was the brother of Sir Clive Wigram (1873-1960), 1st Baron
Wigram, Assistant Private Secretary, then Private Secretary, to King George V.
Wigram’s very unmilitary nickname looks like it has family origins, but this
is mere ignorance and guesswork on my part.
