Second Lieutenant Kay was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kay of Birmingham,
Warwickshire. He was educated at Handsworth Grammar School in Birmingham studied
German at Birmingham University. 2nd Lieutenant Kay was unmarried. In civil
life he was employed as a schoolmaster at Great Yarmouth Grammar School in North
Denes Road and lived at “Gwalia,” 84, North Denes Road, Great Yarmouth. In
April 1915 he was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in the 12th Royal Warwickshires.
Killed in action on November 18, 1915, aged 23 years. Buried Azmak Cemetery,
Suvla. Name commemorated on the Handsworth Grammar School War Memorial,
Birmingham, and the University of Birmingham War Memorial. Report in the
Yarmouth Mercury of November 27, 1915.

Second Lieut, L. H. Kay M. A. 12th Royal Warwickshire Regiment has been killed
at the Dardanelles. Lieut Kay whose home was at 16 Wretham Road Handsworth was
the son of Mr H. Kay head master of All Saints School Hockley, and brother of
Rev W. H. Kay late curate of All Saints, and now a Chaplin to his Majesty's
Forces in Egypt. He was educated at Aston Grammar School where he was captain of
the School. Then proceeded to Birmingham University where he had a brilliant
career, taking his M. A. degree at the age of 19. He gained several scholarships
there and represented Birmingham on University tour of Germany in March 1913.
Lieut Kay received his commission in March.
